RLC 2013
March 22nd marked an exciting weekend for Delta chi. Scott Audette, Michael Beale, Timothy Melendez, Richard Kompf and alumni Adam Fetterly attended the Regional Leadership Conference (RLC). RLC was an important experience for these five, and the rest of the chapter. The schedule included informational presentations, and group activities with other chapters of Delta Chi. They were paired with the SUNY Adelphi chapter of Delta Chi, a newly established chapter. They were able to help them out with their developing chapter. Scott Audette was glad that “the experience we have so far was actually benefiting another chapter”. Adam Fetterly was glad that he was “able to give my knowledge” to help other members.
Saturday, Head of Ritual, Gregg Hauser went over the initiation ritual, an “found the smallest details for improvement” claimed Scott. Saturday night, the group played in a Delta Chi dodge ball tournament. The fact that they did not have anything to change into did not stop them. They won the tournament in their suits, and we had $500 dollars donated to Jimmy V in our name. Congratulations guys. Richard Kompf boldly claims, “We are clearly the most athletic Delta Chi in the region, and probably the country”.
Sunday morning, we received an award for outstanding philanthropy and new Head Regent Ron Martin was elected. He was elected to take Dave Weber's place, who had been in that position for over 30 years. Talk about dedication. In the words of Michael Beale, “Overall, I'd say it was a great learning experience...We got a different perspective from people who eat sleep and breathe Delta Chi”. Adam Fetterly proclaimed, “It was a good experience for the younger guys, and it was enjoyable for me to see them learn new things”. When interviewed, brother Timothy Melendez had no words, he was rendered speechless by awesomeness of this experience.
The next week we had a mini golf philanthropy event with Sigma Delta Tau, a sorority on campus. We played mini golf together, and over $400 was donated to our philanthropies. Philanthropy chairman Mike Fontana arranged this event. “We had a great time”, said Mike. According to Matthew Simons, “It was a great event to cooperate with another Greek organization to raise money for our philanthropies”. We look forward to hosting another event with SDT or other Greek organizations. We hope that the rest of the spring continues to be as eventful as it's start.

March Update
The third week in February was an exciting week for the members of Delta Chi. The week started off strong on Sunday with the Pi class pinning. Congratulations to our nine new associate members. These associate members are full of potential; they have been selected because they hold the integrity and loyalty that is required to be called a Delta Chi.
The week ended with Chillibration on Saturday, a community festival in downtown Cortland. Our members helped with setup and clean up and made balloon animals for the local children. Chillibration also hosted the polar pie eating contest. Jonathan Rydlewski proudly displayed Delta Chi excellence by winning the contest, having eaten a total of 17 frozen pancakes. Chillibration has proven that not only are the members of Delta Chi eager to help out the community, but also, they can sure as hell eat a crap load of frozen pancakes. Congratulations to all members for another successful and exciting week!

Xi Class Initiation
Delta Chi Cortland chapter would like to congratulate the Xi Class on their initiation into the Delta Chi Brotherhood. It has been a long road but all the hard work will soon pay off. However, your journey in the brotherhood of Delta Chi has just begun. Being a part of the Delta Chi brotherhood is not just about being part of an organization throughout college. Being part of the Delta Chi brotherhood is a life long commitment that can provide you with many benefits. However, what you get out of Delta Chi is determined by what you put into it. Please take this time to really think about why you wanted to join Delta Chi and what it is you want Delta Chi to provide to you. As a newly initiated brother, everything in the greek system is quite new to you, but soon you will realize that joining Delta Chi was one of the best decisions you ever made.

Alumni Highlights
Dear Alumni,
I would like to start working on our upcoming newsletter, since we haven't had one in a long time. One of the articles I would like to include is an Alumni Highlights page(s). In order to do this I would like to know more about what each alumni is currently doing. I would like all alumni who wish to be included to email me at dfraser20@yahoo.com a short paragraph(s) about their current life. Please limit this to one page and include careers since graduation, major at SUNY Cortland, Year graduated, future plans, etc. Please limit to serious information since this will be read by alumni and current members. I know it is hard to take time out of your busy schedules but it will be greatly appreciated if you do so. You must have the email into me by Sunday February 26 to be included in the newsletter. Thank You.

September 11th Memorial & Habitat for Humanity
On the weekend of September 11th, 2011 while many were honoring the ten year anniversary of one of the most tragic acts of terrorism seen around the world, the brothers of Delta Chi thought it would be a symbolic time to give back to the community. On Saturday September 10th, members of the Delta Chi Fraternity teamed up with Habitat for Humanity to help build a house on Clinton Avenue. On this day, Delta Chi helped construct walls, insulate the house, and put up half of the supports for the roof. As the day was coming to an end the mayor of Cortland, Susan Feiszli, stopped by the work site and took notice of the Delta Chi brothers working to build a house for a less fortunate family. She thought it was a great gesture and asked if the brothers could help set up a 9/11 memorial the very next day. Honored by the offer, the brothers gratefully accepted. The next day, even more members of the Delta Chi fraternity showed up to help set up a tent, chairs and tables for the towns people to sit at. After the brothers set everything up, many chose to stay and watch the ceremony where all the men and women who have served in the line of duty were honored for their bravery. The brothers of Delta Chi were offered to be paid for their work, but instead, the brothers asked if a check could be written out to their philanthropy, The Jimmy V Foundation for Cancer Research. The mayor was thrilled with this idea and gladly obliged. This is what the mayor of Cortland, Susan Feiszle had to say about the weekend. “This is a picture of the fraternity [members] I met while working at the new Habitat for Humanity House last Saturday. They helped set up and take down the tent and chairs for the 9/11 event at Court House Park yesterday. In lieu of payment, they asked that a donation be given the Jimmy V Cancer [Foundation]”. Michael McGovern, President of Delta Chi, had this to say about the mayor and events of the weekend, “I was very happy when the mayor told us that she would gladly write a check to the Jimmy V Foundation. We work very hard to try and donate as much money as we can to this great cause. This weekend didn’t seem like work to the brothers because we all knew that what we were doing would benefit the community greatly.” The men of Delta Chi hope to continue helping the community become a better place, but also hope to continue to raise money for the Jimmy V. Foundation.

Delta Chi Summer Retreat 2011
First off I’d like to welcome everyone back to school and wish you the best for the upcoming year. Over the summer a few brothers, myself included, went on a camping retreat in Peekamoose Gorge. It was a great time of reuniting with friends, looking back on past semesters, while at the same, time begin planning for future semesters. Much was talked about this upcoming rush and due to what was decided at the retreat, this semester’s rush is looking more promising than ever. Good luck this semester.

Improved GPA on Campus
The chapter of Delta Chi here at Cortland is proud to be recognized for having the most improved GPA of all the Greek fraternities here on campus. Striving for the best is a tough road that includes a lot of hard work. Delta Chi encourages its members to do the best that they can in all aspects of their life. Being in college is a privilege that not all have the opportunity to embrace. From the previous semester Delta Chi Cortland decided it was time for a change for the better. By cracking down on course work the overall GPA of the chapter improved from 2.61 to 2.81, which is a very impressive jump for one semester. All brothers should be proud of this improvement as it is a grand example of what hard work can bring to an individual and a group. Todd Malone was the brother with the highest GPA of a 3.88. Everyone should strive to have a GPA of similar proportions to Todd. Recent graduate from SUNY Cortland and Delta Chi Alumni, Matt Meade, found that such hard work should be rewarded. Due to the academic excellence that Todd had showed this past semester, Matt donated a $200 bonus to help Todd financially with Delta Chi. The Cortland chapter of Delta Chi is proud to have such hard working individuals dedicated to school and the brotherhood, and we thank Matt Meade for his generous donation, this is a great example of how hard work pays off and we hope that all of our active brothers and alumni continue to work hard and never forget what you are a part of. Born Proud, Raised Proud!

RLC 3/13/11
Recently five brothers from the Cortland chapter, that volunteered to attend the Regional Leadership Conference for the seventh region of Delta Chi, became educated on numerous topics that can help better their chapter. Mike McGovern, Ben Herman, Matt Simons, Matt Clark and Matthew Scheckton, or the FAB FIVE as many call them; all decided it was their responsibility to represent their chapter at this conference. Having two NIB’s (newly initiated brothers) attend this event is a great thing, that the still young, and ambitious chapter should be appreciative of, however the dedication of the elder brothers should also be seen as great. During the course of a weekend these brothers were taught many values and ways to better their chapter in some aspects and also start certain aspects in a new direction. The FAB FIVE had a good time meeting many brothers from chapters across the region and were fortunate enough to sit down with them, not just the conductors of the conference, and learn from the successful chapters they run are doing. It was not just an eye opener at times but a giving experience also. The FAB FIVE gave the other brothers thoughts on how to further their chapters. They looked at it not just from the local level but from the national level. It can be hard for some to do that until attending such a conference, which in the future hopefully all brothers will have the chance to do. It was overall a great experience that opened eyes and pushed individuals into positions to be great leaders while also making great leaders, even better ones.

Brotherhood Ski Trip
Each semester the Delta Chi Cortland Chapter holds brotherhood events to get to know each other and the associate members better. On February 15, 2011 some of the brothers of the Delta Chi Cortland Chapter held a brotherhood event at a nearby ski resort. This was an awesome way for the brothers to bond and become closer as a chapter.
